Day 1 – Arrival in Medan | Welcome meeting
Arrive in Medan, the gateway to North Sumatra.
Meet your fellow travellers and Tour Leader at 6:00 PM for the Welcome Meeting in the hotel lobby area. Followed by an introduction to the journey ahead.
The evening is free to relax and get ready for your Sumatra adventure.

Day 2 – Medan – Tangkahan I Heritage & Local Culture
Begin your Sumatra experience with a cultural exploration of Medan.
Visit the impressive Great Mosque of Medan, the historic Maimun Palace, and the former home of Tjong A Fie. Continue to one of Medan’s beautiful Buddhist temples, experiencing the city’s fascinating blend of Malay, Batak, Chinese and Islamic heritage.
After lunch, travel through the countryside towards Tangkahan, a peaceful gateway to the Leuser rainforest.
Arrive in Tangkahan and enjoy the natural surroundings of this remote jungle destination.

Day 3 – Tangkahan – Bukit Lawang I Jungle, River & Wildlife
Enjoy the peaceful morning atmosphere of Tangkahan, surrounded by the lush rainforest of the Leuser Ecosystem.
Tangkahan offers an opportunity to appreciate the rainforest and its wildlife in a responsible way. We encourage travellers to observe animals from a respectful distance and avoid activities involving riding, bathing, feeding or direct physical interaction with wildlife.
For those seeking a little more adventure, an optional river tubing experience offers a refreshing way to enjoy the natural surroundings.
Continue through the countryside towards Bahorok – Bukit Lawang, one of North Sumatra’s renowned gateways to the Leuser rainforest.
Arrive in Bukit Lawang, settle into your accommodation and enjoy a relaxing evening beside the river, preparing for tomorrow’s rainforest adventure.

Day 4 – Bukit Lawang I Trekking in the Leuser Rainforest
Today is one of the highlights of your Sumatra journey.
Set out on a guided trek through the Leuser rainforest, one of Southeast Asia’s most important tropical ecosystems and a precious habitat for a remarkable diversity of wildlife.
Walk beneath the jungle canopy and discover the sights and sounds of the rainforest. Keep your eyes open for tropical birds, butterflies, insects, and other wildlife, with the possibility of observing the Sumatran orangutan in its natural habitat.
Wildlife sightings can never be guaranteed, and that is part of the beauty of exploring a living rainforest. We encourage travellers to observe wildlife responsibly, maintain a respectful distance and avoid feeding, touching or disturbing animals.
More than simply a jungle trek, today offers an opportunity to experience the rainforest while gaining a deeper appreciation of the importance of protecting its wildlife and natural habitat.
Return to Bukit Lawang in the afternoon and enjoy some well-deserved free time beside the river.

Day 5 – Bukit Lawang – Berastagi I: From Jungle to Highland
Leave the tropical lowlands behind and travel towards the cool volcanic highlands of Berastagi.
As the landscape changes, discover a different side of North Sumatra, with mountain scenery, agricultural fields and traditional villages along the way.
Upon arrival, explore the colourful Berastagi Fruit Market, famous for its variety of locally grown tropical fruits and agricultural products.
Enjoy the cooler mountain climate and relaxed atmosphere of this highland town.

Day 6 – Berastagi – Lake Toba – Samosir Island | Waterfalls & Batak Heritage
Today we journey towards one of Indonesia’s most spectacular natural wonders: Lake Toba.
On the way, stop at the magnificent Sipiso-piso waterfall, plunging dramatically into the valley below.
Continue towards the Lake Toba region and discover traditional Batak houses, offering an insight into the unique architecture, traditions and cultural heritage of the Batak people.
Cross to Samosir Island, located in the heart of Lake Toba, and settle into your lakeside accommodations.
Relax and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of this extraordinary volcanic lake.

Day 7 – Samosir Island I Batak Culture & Island Life
Today is dedicated to discovering the cultural and natural beauty of Samosir Island.
Experience the island from a local perspective with a fun bentor/sidecar motorbike excursion.
Visit Ambarita, famous for its traditional Batak village and ancient stone chairs, and continue to the Tomb of King Sidabutar, an important historical and cultural site.
The rest of the day is free to relax and enjoy Samosir at your own pace.
Take a swim in Lake Toba, enjoy a lakeside café, explore the surroundings, or simply slow down and appreciate the spectacular scenery.

Day 8 – Samosir – Medan I Return to City
After breakfast, begin the journey back to Medan.
Enjoy the changing landscapes as we travel from the peaceful surroundings of Lake Toba towards the bustling city.
Arrive in Medan and check in for your final night.
The evening is free to relax, explore the city, or enjoy a final dinner with your fellow travellers.

Day 9 – End of Classic Sumatra I Continue Your Journey
After breakfast, our Classic Sumatra journey comes to an end.
Transfer to Medan Airport for your onward flight to Jakarta, where travellers continuing on Classic Java Combo can connect with the next chapter of their Indonesian adventure.
